We all love our wonderful country, but we face what many believe are the greatest challenges in our nation’s history. Here are just a few of the tremendous problems that must be addressed:

The problems:

Fighting the Wrong War. We have to get our troops out of Iraq. The Bush Administration’s invasion of Iraq has had no effect on Al Qaeda other than to boost their recruiting efforts. There is no evidence that America is safer than before. The Iraqi insurgency continues to cost American lives and it appears that the insurgency will continue as long as Americans stay there.

Economic Meltdown. Inflation is out of control. The Bush Energy Policy has lead to an historical upward spiral in the cost of oil and petroleum-based products. This, in turn, is driving up the cost of everything. There is no question that rampant inflation is occurring on everything we buy and that it is affecting every member of society. Millions of Americans are worried about how they are going to pay their bills. In addition, the subprime mortgage debacle is causing millions to face losing their homes.

Compulsion for Oil. The Republicans have kept us dependant on foreign oil. The Bush Energy Policy has stymied research into renewable energy sources that could potentially help people of all nations. These policies, designed to help big oil companies make record profits, have driven up the cost of oil worldwide.

Global Warming. The Republicans continue to ignore the greatest threat to the human race in history. While our coasts erode and both droughts and floods plague countries all over the world, the Bush Administration continues to do all it can to protect the greatest polluters and emitters of greenhouse gases. The Bush Administration insists on putting profits over people, even when it could have devastating effects on mankind.

Deserting Nations in Crisis. The Bush Administration has abandoned America’s historic role as a champion of human rights. We should be leading the charge to stop crimes against humanity like the genocide in Darfur. America’s image around the world has sunk to its lowest ebb in history.

The Cost: 

• $275,000,000 – the amount we spend every day in Iraq.
• 107% - the amount gas prices have jumped in the past 7 years. The average family will spend almost $400 a month on gasoline this year. Experts predict that gas prices will continue to rise to unimaginable heights.
• $103 billion – the economic toll the housing crisis has taken on families so far. It is estimated that 7.3 million families will be forced out of their homes.
• 8 million – the number of Americans who are now unemployed. Average wages have dropped by 2.4 %. Unemployment is on the rise—no one knows how many will lose their jobs as companies strive to keep up with out of control costs.
• 78% - the increase in the cost of health insurance since 2001. This is the major reason why almost 50 million Americans are uninsured today.
• 7 billion – the tons of greenhouse gases the U.S. emits every year. This equal 25% of the greenhouse gases emitted worldwide.

We must wrestle control of our country out of the hands of the Republicans, whose policies are designed to benefit the wealthiest few.  Those policies have left us fighting an unending war, rampant inflation, staggering energy costs, the lack of affordable healthcare, severe damage to the environment, and a disrespected image and untrustworthy reputation around the world. 

We must elect Democrats at all levels of government to reverse the direction our country has taken under the Republicans and the Bush Administration.

The Democratic Party is the “party of the people.” It is high time the citizens of the United States stand up for what’s right for all Americans and not just for big business and a privileged few.  Join us as we work harder than any group of citizens in recent memory to elect good, honest, and fair-minded people to all positions in government.

Here’s what you can do:

Register – be sure you are registered to vote. You can’t just wish your way to good government! If you want a government that listens to its citizens and cares about all the people you are going to have to do your part. That starts by being registered to vote.

Study the issues – most people know in their gut that were headed in the wrong direction and that pandering to big business and the rich is selling the average American down the drain. But you will find the upcoming campaign to be far more interesting and worthy of an all out fight if you learn more about the challenges we face as a nation and the critical issues that must be addressed.

Learn about the candidates – find out all you can about every candidate running for a position on your ballot. That means you need to become informed not only about who is running for President, but also become familiar with state level candidates, appellate judges, and county officeholders. Only by studying the candidates can you find out where they stand on the issues and learn whether they would be worthy of your vote.

Vote – go to the polls and vote on election day. Voting is both a right and a duty. Hundreds of thousands have died so you can exercise that right. If you want good government, let it start with you – by exercising your right to vote.

Join the Democratic Party – for only $20 for two years, you can join us in getting a Democratic slate elected in November. All that will be asked of you is to help us get out the vote. Your small contribution will help us get the word out about the issues we’re facing and the candidates we’re supporting. And, by joining the Democratic party, you will let people know that you have taken a stand for good government and the rights of all the people. 

Help Get Out the Vote – encourage your friends, relatives, and everyone you know to vote in the upcoming election. The Republicans will be pouring millions of dollars into the upcoming election because they know the people have had enough! But their millions won’t be enough to overcome the power of people like you if you will insist that everyone you know goes to the polls and exercises their right to vote. With your help, we can bring about change in this country. With your help we can elect good and decent Democrats to all positions in government.
